East Cobb Park - Growing Again

East Cobber
April, 2005

The Friends for the East Cobb Park are pleased to announce a collaboration with Mrs. Wylene Tritt, the owner of the property located on the east side of Sewell Mill Creek across from East Cobb Park.  The agreement reached with Mrs. Tritt is to establish a permanent easement across her property, allowing for the connection of East Cobb Park to Fullers Park. Cobb County Chairman Sam Olens, President of the 2004-05 East Cobb Park board Woody Snell and East Cobb Park Firnd Ted Jones finlalized the agreement with Mrs. Tritt on March 10th.

The connection to Fullers Park is one of thekey elements included in the new Masterplan for Phase 2 of the East Cobb Park. A bridge will be necessary to cross Sewell Mill Creek. Once the bridge is in place, the 12 foot wide multi-use trail running through the center of the East Cobb Park will be extended over the bridge and into Fullers Park complex.  This connection will provide access to additional parking fo the East Cobb Park, while allowing families using Fullers Park access to the East Cobb Park facilities. The Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department plnas to construct additional trails at Fullers Park which will ultimately provide a 2 to 3 mile trail system between the two parks, contributing to the county's multi-purpose trail system.

The bridge is scheduled to be constructed this spring. NOVA Engineering of Kennesaw has donated the geotechnical study required to properly design the bridge foundations. Cobb County DOT will use this information to complete the bridge design. Money for the bridge is being raised by the Friends for the East Cobb Park through donations from residents and local businesses and sales of cobblestones and park benches.

The bridge will be named in honor of Mrs. Tritt's late husband, Norris Wilson Tritt and a ground breaking ceremony will be held later this spring.
